Birmingham-based contractor Colmore Tang Construction is helping to raise much-needed funds to provide new mattresses for Birmingham Christmas Shelter.
The charity provides food, warmth, shelter and friendship to those in need over the festive period, when many other facilities are closed. Run entirely by volunteers, Birmingham Christmas Shelter is open 24 hours a day over the Christmas week, welcoming between 50 and 150 guests daily and providing them with hot meals, drinks, entertainment and a safe place to sleep.
In addition to raising funds to hold the shelter, this year the charity also needs to raise additional money to provide new mattresses for its guests, as its existing ones have reached the end of their lives. To help support this, Colmore Tang Construction has agreed to match funds raised by Birmingham Christmas Shelter.
Claire Jones at Birmingham Christmas Shelter, said: “We are overwhelmed at the generosity of Colmore Tang Construction as they have helped us to continue to provide sheltered accommodation over the Christmas period for many more years to come as a result of the new mattresses.”
The shelter is also encouraging people to join them in ‘buying a homeless person lunch’ by donating just £3 (the cost of a sandwich or meal deal) by texting ‘BHCS15 £3’ to 70070.
