Samantha Brown has been promoted to Head of Conference Aston following an interim management group which ran the organisation for the previous 12 months.

Responsible for Conference Aston’s financial contribution to Aston University, Samantha’s role sees her take operational control across the dedicated 163 bedroom hotel and two conference centres, as well as the wider university’s conferencing and accommodation out of term time, during the summer. Ensuring that Conference Aston is profiled at the high-end of the conference market is a key part of her role, vital in helping to develop and maintain the reputation of the university.

Samantha is also the interface between Conference Aston and its catering and housekeeping provider Sodexo, ensuring a high quality of service and a seamless customer journey as a result of the contract being in place.

Previously Sales Director at Conference Aston, the promotion comes following a 12 month period in which Samantha formed part of an interim management group which ran the venue. Prior to this the position was held by Lucy Talbot, who oversaw the £5.4 million refurbishment of the facility in 2014.

Speaking of her appointment, Samantha said: “I have been in the industry for over 30 years, and have always held commercial roles in strong conference venues. I always thought that my heart lay with the commercial side of the business, however being given the opportunity to form part of the interim team I realised there were facets that I really enjoyed that I hadn’t thought I would. It’s incredibly exciting to continue leading Conference Aston and to focus on embedding the roots that we’ve set for 2016.

“This year we have introduced a Quality Development Manager who is responsible for improving the customer experience by getting closer to every process that has customer interaction and better it where necessary. We are also aiming to increase our repeat business by another 10% this year, having already grown it from 35% to 55%. It’ll be a challenge, but will be incredibly rewarding. Everything we do here is linked to customer experience.”
