Selfridges Birmingham is celebrating after scooping a sustainability award for its achievements in improving environmental measures in store.

The department store’s Green Warrior Team was recognised in Birmingham City Council’s annual sustainability awards yesterday (July 18 2017) when it picked up the prize for the best recycling and waste scheme.

It was lauded for its continuous efforts in encouraging staff to adopt greener ways of working.

Not only has it installed recycling stations for glass, paper, plastics, tins and food waste in its offices and team restaurant, it also introduced ‘No Print Fridays’ and ‘Paperless Meetings’ to reduce the amount of paper it uses.

Selfridges Birmingham General Manager Sam Watts said: “I’m so pleased that our green team’s hard work has been recognised in these awards, because we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously.

“Sustainability is at the top of our agenda across the business, including our offer to customers, and it is always part of our daily discussions to ensure it remains at the forefront of our minds.

“We have management and store briefs to look at how we can further improve, and our green warrior teams are encouraged to come up with new ideas and share best practice, enabling us to implement environmental schemes that can inspire further change within our teams.”
