Japanese cartoon favourite Hello Kitty is going to be giving shoppers the ‘purr-fect’ opportunity to meet their idol in Selfridges Birmingham.

The white and pink kitten, who is a favourite with teenage girls and has leagues of fans across the world, will be visiting the iconic blue and silver store on their popular annual student night.

Shoppers will be able to get a selfie with Hello Kitty, along with an array of other activities taking place in the store on Thursday, 28th April from 6pm.

Hello Kitty is one of the most popular cartoon characters in the world - and in Japan has been licensed to appear on everything from trains to toasters and restaurants to airplanes - she even has her own hospital.

Adam Hockney, general manager of Selfridges said “We are really looking forward to having Hello Kitty into the store and we know that the hundreds of students who live and study in the city will be excited to come and meet her.”

The student event will be between 4pm and 10pm and there will be discounts on selected brands throughout the store. A valid NUS Student Card must be shown for all offers and gifts.
